Hurricane the storm is projected to escalate to a uncommon highest-level cyclone as it shifts towards Jamaica, delivering deadly flash flooding and rock falls.

This weather system, which registered winds of up to 195 km/h as of 0600 Greenwich Mean Time, is currently turning north-west in the Caribbean Sea and is anticipated to make landfall by early next week, according to meteorological authorities.

Alerts of blackouts and damage to infrastructure have been issued as the hurricane produces up to 76cm of rain and sea level surges as high as thirteen feet above typical tides. "Seek shelter now," residents have been urged.

This hurricane is the thirteenth storm in the ongoing Atlantic storm period, which usually concludes in November.

Highest-Level Cyclone Danger

A highest-level hurricane is the most powerful category, with wind speeds of at least 252 km/h.

While the hurricane is projected to reduce in intensity to a fourth-level hurricane before reaching Jamaica, authorities said there was "almost no noticeable change in the general consequences" upon landfall, and that the cyclone will be "at least that intensity" when it strikes the island.

With tropical storm-strength winds and rain anticipated well in advance ahead of it passes over Jamaica's central region - possibly even the capital, Kingston - advisories state that "readiness efforts must be accelerated".

"A multi-day period of harmful winds and torrential rain has started and will cause devastating and dangerous sudden floods and numerous rock slides," counseled climate experts.

The country's head of government the statesman stated: "I know that there are countless citizens who are worried, who are extremely apprehensive, and appropriately: you should be concerned.

"Yet the most effective method to manage nervousness and any apprehension and worry is to remain prepared."

Residents are being instructed to secure their homes with protective bags and wooden boards, and to accumulate necessary supplies.

Wider Impact

Advisories are also in effect for parts of Haiti encompassing the primary urban center, the adjacent nation and eastern Cuba, where this storm is anticipated to bring similar effects by the middle portion of the coming week.

Rock slides already being caused by the hurricane have already killed two in the country, according to emergency services.

Expected Trajectory

The hurricane is predicted to move across Cuba by the middle of the week before traveling via the Caribbean archipelago and emerging into the open ocean.

By the point it makes contact with the Caribbean nation, it is forecast to have reduced to a category three cyclone.
